Brightest lights for motion sensor security at home?
I want to purchase a motion activated security light to install above my garage door. What are the brightest lights available, halogen? Does anybody have a recommendation for a high quality brand of motion sensor security lights? Thank you.
This looks like a good choice to me

Metal halide lights are usually the brightest. Stay away from high or low pressure sodium.
“Metal halide” Can not be used on a motion detector!
save your money…
The brightest would be Halogen or LED
Halogen has an instant on effect.
Most LED’s do now too. I would go with something like a 150 watt or even 300 watt.
As for Super bright LED you might be better off looking at halogen due to prices. Halogen starts around $10.00 and up
LED starts around $60 for the real bright ones.
The problem with “Metal Halide” bulbs are that they take 15 to 20 minutes for them to get as bright as they will get. Another disadvantage with those bulbs are that when the lights go on, if the power goes out it would take another 20 mins for the light to even start to go on again.
There are two kinds of halogen bulbs, “flood light” and “spot light”. A flood light will spread out the light evenly over an area (better for a bigger yard, driveway, etc.), and a spot light will direct most of its light in a certain area (better for a smaller yard, driveway, etc.).
If you want the light to stay on constantly, I would recommend a Metal Halide (when on it has that purple tint to it), but if you want it to go on and off, over and over when something trips the sensor, I would go with a Halogen.
If your putting these above the garage door on the outside you may not want the brightest when pulling into the driveway you maybe blinded buy the light.
